Portraits of Tora-san

restaurant on the approach to taishakuten temple
portraits of Tora-san
When I walked on the approach to shibamata taishakuten temple.
I found those portraits displayed in a window of restaurant.
Tora-san is the main character of popular movie series titled "Otoko Wa Tsurai Yo".
Please check my article, statue of Tora-san.

Tora-san movies are comedy.
But those movies are full of pathos and humanity.
So many people were moved by them.
Shibamata is home town of Tora-san in those movies.
And they say that shibamata is home town of Japanese in mind.

Those photos were taken on April 11 , 2009.

I went on google and discovered the story of Tora-San and of the movies. This character seems to be very important in your country; I read that the actor was dead in 1995, and that stopped the series. Impressive to see that he is always so popular and loved 15 years after!

You have sparked an interest in this Tora-san character. Thank you for this, often these movies are more important to understand the history of a country than many books.

I did guess that Tora-San was a comedy actor.

My parents used to watch the series all the time! I think they're pretty funny too. I like how Tora san always goes past the house before getting up the nerve to walk in :)
