300 Year Old Pine

300 year old pine in hama-rikyu gardens
You can see this old pine tree at the north west corner of hama-rikyu gardens.
This pine tree was planted at the time of 6 th Tokugawa Shogun, Ienobu.
He planted the tree to celebrate renovation of the garden.

What a magnificent tree! Fascinating! It reminds me a bit of the huge tree in My Neighbor Totoro — but that grew vertically rather than horizontally like this one.

It's an incredible looking tree. The best part is that it is still alive and treasured by everyone after centuries.
