Rooftop Garden in Kanda Myojin

This garden is above a parking of the Kanda Myojin (Kanda shrine).
It is small, but we can enjoy viewing flowers in every season.
This garden was created last year as a greening project of the shrine.

Kanda Myojin in New Year

Happy new year!!
Today, I visited Kanda-Myojin that is a shinto shrine located in soto-kanda.
So many people visited the shrine today.





Photo above is a souvenir shop stands by entrance of approach to main gate of the shrine.

Kanda Myojin ( Kanda Shrine )

Kanda Myojin is a shinto shrine located in soto-kanda.
Festival of the shrine is one of great festival in Japan.
You can go to the shrine from ochanomizu station by walking ( around 5 minutes ).

Kanda Yabusoba

Kanda Yabusoba (かんだやぶそば) is a long-established soba shop in kanda-awajicho.
Soba is a Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour.
It is a most famous soba shop (soba restaurant) in Tokyo.
It is established in 1880 and that building was built in 1923(after the great kanto earthquake).

Isegen

Isegen (いせ源) is a long-established Japanese restaurant in kanda-sudacho.
The restaurant is specializing in monkfish (arglerfish) dish.
It was established in 1830, and current building was built in 1930.

It is located very close to Takemura that I introduced you yesterday.

Takemura

From today, I introduce you three old buildings in kanda.
Those are approved as historical architecture by the Tokyo metropolitan government.

Photos above are Takemura (竹むら) that is a long-established Japanese sweet shop in kanda-sudacho.
It was established in 1930.
You can have traditional Japanese sweet in the atmospheric building.

Sign on the Sushi Shop

I took these photos near kanda station.
That fish on the sign is sea bream.
Sea bream is an excellent ingredient of Japanese dish.

Sign on the Unagi Restaurant

I took these photos in kanda.
Kanda is an old district in Tokyo.

In this week, I introduce you some interesting signs in kanda.
The first photo is a sign on Unagi restaurant.
"Unagi" is a Japanese eel.

Izakaya under the Rail Road Overpass

Izakaya means Japanese pub.
I took these photos near kanda station in afternoon.
When I went to there, they were busy for opening.

Kanda Catholic Church

Kanda catholic church is located at nishi-kanda.
You can go to the church from suido-bashi station in around 7 minute by walking.
This church is dedicated to St. Francis Xavier who was the missionary who visited Japan first.

Secondhand Book Stores in Kanda-Jinbocho

Kanda-jinbocho is well known book store town.
There are not only large book stores but also so many secondhand book stores.
I took this photo on the yasukuni-dori (street) at kanda-jinbocho.
Many secondhand book stores form a line along the street.

Kanda Yukidaruma Fair

Thanks all for writting your nice ideas of the snow block which I posted yesterday.

You almost hit!!

They set snow blocks on the street to make snowman.
"Yukidaruma" means Japanese style snowman.
"Kanda Yukidaruma Fair" is held every year at kanda-ogawacho.
In this year, it was held from January 16 to January 19.
I happened to see it on the first day of the festival.
So almost works had not been finished yet on that time.
But they looked happy to make snowman in heart of Tokyo.


Oh! It's a snowdog(?)

Snow Block on the Street

On that day I walked from akihabara to Nikorai-do(Nicolai Cathedral).
After I took photos of the cathedral, I still strolled around ochanomizu.

When I walked on yasukuni-dori(street) at kanda-ogawamachi(town name), I saw a large snow block on the street.

It was a strange view. so I tried to touched on the block.
Yes, it was really snow.
I thought it was brought to there from somewhere far away.

Well, I give you a quiz.

"Why did they set the snow block on the street?"

Walking from Ginza to Akihabara (lantern)

I'm walking along chuo-dori(street) at kanda sudacyo.

Photo above is a big lantern of the yakiniku restaurant.

Those Kanji symbols on the lantern means "kanda-sudacho"(town name).

Walking from Ginza to Akihabara (kanda)

I'm still walking along chuo-dori(street) for akihabara.
At last, I got in kand, akihabara is in kanda district.
Photo above is kanda railway station.

I have passed kanda station, and still walking to the north.
Photo above is the crossing of chuo-dori and kuramae-bashi-dori(street).
I'm approaching to akihabara.

Mansei-bashi in afternoon

After comming back to akihabara from ueno, I came to there.
Mansei-bashi (bridge) is a bridge over kanda-gawa(river).
It is a bridge of chuo-dori.
I like that light.

Shohei-bashi

Shohei-bashi is a bridge which is over kanda-gawa(river).
It is a bridge of sotobori-dori(street).
It is close to akihabara electric town.

Both side of the bridge, there are bridges for walker.

Awajizaka

Awajizaka is a slope which the top is close to ochanomizu railway station.


In the photo above you can see tall building in akihabara.


Going down the slope, a brick rairoad overpass appears in the left side.

Ochanomizu Station

On that day, after taking photo in shinjuku, I got on chuo-line at shinjuku station and got off the train at ochanomizu station.
So I decided to go to akihabara from ochanomizu by walking.
This photo is hijiribashi exit of ochanomizu station.
