Walking from Ginza to Akihabara (nihonbashi bridge)
I have been walking along chuo-dori(street) from ginza for akihabara, and I'm at nihonbashi bridge.
Original nihonbashi bridge was built in 1603 as wooden bridge.
It was a symbol of Edo(old name of Tokyo) on that days.
Current bridge( the 19th nihonbashi bridge) made of stone was built 1911.
I like this bridge and details of the bridge.
But I think the scenery of the bridge is not so beautiful, because of the highway above the bridge.
I think that highway (Metropolitan Expressway) should move to under ground.
To be continued.

The details are amazing! Beautiful bridge!
There's lots of filigran work in the lion statue of the first and the dragon in the fourth pic. Beautiful!
The bridge itself has a great and very classical architecture, and the sculptures are simply wonderful! those lions and dragons are very impressive, with all those details;
It's sure that the highway bridge would be better anywhere else!
The nihon bashi doesn't deserve to be overshone by the modern highway.
I think that highway should be turned into a lowway too. Stiil the bridge's features are well presented in your photo's. We'll try to imagine the highway isn't there.
Amazing contrast between the old art and the new buildings ... I think you are right about the highway ...
Is this the same place of the bridge recreated full-size in the Edo Tokyo Museum? That was amazing. And so is this one. I love all the sculptures on it!
Thanks all.
Hilda; yes,same place.
In Edo era, Nihonbashi bridge was made of wood.
